WHAT IS AN ACTING SHOWREEL ACTUALLY FOR? A showreel is not simply a collection of scenes. It is evidence. In a very short amount of time, casting needs to be able to see who you are on screen, where you might fit and whether they want to see more. That changes the way you should think about building one. At ActorZone, we don't start by asking, "What scene would be impressive?" We start with the actor. WHO ARE YOU ON SCREEN? Before creating footage, you need to understand what the camera sees. Not who you would like to play one day. Not how many different accents or characters you can demonstrate. You. Your age range. Your energy. Your physicality. Your natural qualities. The roles you could realistically walk onto a professional film or television set and play. This is your casting identity. Your footage should help casting understand it. That sounds obvious, but actors can spend years training without really understanding their relationship with the camera. Where are your eyes? How much movement does the shot allow?
